Ministry of Defense Secretary-General Major General Eyal Zamir (Commander-in-Chief) and Rafael CEO Yoav Turdjman signed additional contracts for the Iron Dome, David Sling, and high-power laser defense system battery on Thursday. .
The U.S. Congress approved an $8.7 billion aid package in April 2024 to help strengthen Israel’s air defenses.
The Iron Dome system, developed in Israel and manufactured in cooperation with the U.S. government, is designed to protect against the threat of short- and intermediate-range rockets and missiles, as well as weapons of mass destruction. The system integrates breakthrough technology and is considered one of the most advanced air defense systems in the world. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is the main developer of the system in collaboration with Israel Aerospace Industries’ ELTA division and Amperst Company. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is a central partner in the development and production of Israel’s multilayer systems, including David’s Sling and Arrow, as well as the production of Iron Dome components.

“The signing of the Iron Dome contract is a central element of an unprecedented scope of efforts being led by IMOD in collaboration with Mr. Rafael and others in the defense industry to augment and strengthen our forces in combat.” Zamir said. “This was made possible thanks to the U.S. aid package, the details of which were recently finalized in Washington. We thank U.S. government officials for this. The Iron Dome system will transform the battlefield. The agreement we signed today will further strengthen and expand the system’s capabilities, but it has not been disclosed to date. The IDF I would like to thank Mr. Rafael, his management team and employees for their significant contribution to strengthening the qualitative military superiority of the country. ”
