“Modi was in DC on the same day Trump announced the horrifying mutual tariffs,” said Ripley, CNN’s senior international correspondent.
According to CNN journalist Will Ripley, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s negotiations with President Donald Trump were “master class” for other leaders around the world.

“I think we now think it was a very positive encounter between Isba and Trump and now it seems like a very positive encounter between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Negotiations with President Trump To step into the show,” Ripley said during the CNN broadcast.
“Whether Prime Minister Modi knew or expected President Trump to announce this mutual tariff, Modi has many faces if he returns to India without making any major progress,” Ripley said. “They may lose, but at the end of this, they essentially announced the best possible outcome for both parties.”
On Thursday, hours before meeting Prime Minister Modi, Donald Trump announced plans to enact mutual tariffs, but his duties will not take effect anytime soon.
Republican leaders who previously called India the “very big abuser” of tariffs have once again mentioned the country while signing an executive order on mutual taxes.
“There are actually some smaller countries that are even smaller, but India is charging incredible tariffs. I remember Harley Davidson couldn’t sell his bike in India. Harleys were forced to build…but I think they built a factory in India to avoid paying tariffs,” he said.
Earlier this month, Trump charged 25% extra charges on imports from Canada’s neighbors and Mexico, and 10% on people from China. However, taxes in Canada and Mexico were suspended for a month.
