On January 31, just days before the retirement of Chief Minister of Finance LK Ashikh, the Karnataka government appointed Ritesh Kumar Singh to the post.
According to an order issued on Monday, Singh, a 1996 Karnataka cadre officer, will be posted on a temporary basis on special duty in the finance ministry till January 31 and will take over as chief secretary in the finance ministry from February. .
Singh was the principal secretary in the school education and literacy department. He will be posted as a special duty officer in the Ministry of Finance with immediate effect, while the national budget is being prepared.
Mr. Singh previously served as Senior Advisor to the Director-General of the World Bank and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate.
After his retirement, Ashiq will serve as Additional Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister on a contractual basis from February 1. Mr. Ashiq has been serving as ACS at the Ministry of Finance since June 2023. Previously, he was attached to the Rural Development Department and the Panchayat Raj Department. During Siddaramaiah’s first stint as CM, he was posted in the Prime Minister’s Office and Chief Minister’s Office.
