US President Joe Biden expressed sadness at Carter’s death, saying: “The world has lost an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian.”
“For more than 60 years, we were honored to call Jimmy Carter a dear friend. But what was so extraordinary about Jimmy Carter was that he was loved by people all over America and around the world who had never met him. “Millions of people also consider him a dear friend,” he added.
Vice President Kamala Harris called Jimmy Carter’s life “a testament to the power of service” and said he was “guided by a deep and abiding faith in God, America, and humanity.”
“Jimmy Carter’s life as a lieutenant in the United States Navy, the 76th governor of Georgia, and the 39th president of the United States is a testament to the power of service,” Harris’ statement continued.
President-elect Donald Trump said, “The challenges that Jimmy faced as president came at a pivotal time for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. We all owe him a debt of gratitude.”

The former US president died at his home in Plains, Georgia. Jimmy Carter has malignant melanoma skin cancer, and the tumor has recently spread to his liver and brain. He ceased further treatment and spent the remainder of his time at home receiving hospice care, according to a February 2023 statement from the Carter Center.
