At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the Indian Space Research Organization and the Indian National Space Propulsion and Certification Center demonstrated space technologies that have the potential to transform the automotive sector. Of these, 43 cutting-edge technologies were exhibited. These include image sensors, pressure sensors, gyroscopes, accelerometers, noise suppression systems, and special coatings. All of these focus on vehicle safety, performance and sustainability.

The focus of this cooperation is to reduce the automotive sector’s dependence on imported technology and support India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of self-reliance. ISRO and IN-SPACe aim to contribute to the growth of the domestic automotive industry while improving global competitiveness by integrating space-grade innovations into automotive applications.

On January 20, 2025, IN-SPACe in collaboration with Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) conducted a session called ‘ISRO Technology for Automotive Sector’. The session featured presentations by ISRO experts from various centers such as Space Applications Centre, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center and Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. The scope of the use of space technology in the automotive sector and the scope of implementing pilot joint projects between research institutes and the automotive industry were discussed.

Dr. Rajeev Jyoti, Director, Technical Directorate, IN-SPACe, explained that working closely with the automotive industry is an important step to easily adapt ISRO’s technology to India. He said the initiative will promote self-reliance by encouraging domestic production of critical components such as sensors.

The participation of ISRO and IN-SPACe highlights the Government of India’s efforts to create a collaborative ecosystem where innovation and sustainability are at the core of driving innovation in the automotive sector.
