There are few things in fashion as divisive as the preference for jeans. Fans of skinny jeans will cringe at the thought of floating in a baggy silhouette, while fans of wide-legs prefer to go without pants than try to wear skin-tight denim . You’re in one camp or the other! However, there are a few trendsetters who can exist in both worlds. Are you one of those style stars? Bella Hadid. The supermodel has experimented with just about every jean silhouette over the years. But her latest denim look somehow straddles both sides of the jeans debate.
Hadid arrived in New York City this morning wearing a fur-lined coat and extreme flared jeans. Above the knee they fit as snug as jeans, essentially skinny jeans, but flare at the ankle and skim the floor. Is this Hadid’s way of slowly ushering in the resurgence of skinny, which has largely fallen out of favor since the 2010s? A subtle way to bring her back into trend, so to speak?

If so, Hadid isn’t the only one who appreciates skinny jeans. Labels like Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, and Miu Miu have been showing off extra-tight denim on their runways in recent seasons. After a season in which baggies and wide-legs dominated the catwalks, fashion as a whole may finally be ready to bring the look back. If you’re a baggy fan, consider this a fair warning. Because when Hadid gives her stamp of approval on something, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a full-fledged fashion movement. Once again, no one is forcing you to wear skinny jeans. Wear what you like.
