Intel moves to internal GPU manufacturing without using TSMC

Teaser

Intel is using a new architecture called Xe3p to gear the next batch of discrete graphics cards. This design is a tweaked version of the previous XE3 setup and is intended to work well with Panther Lake Core graphics. The difference this time is that Intel does not just outsource chip manufacturing to companies like TSMC. They plan to do it in-house. This change may also result in more control of production, smoother integration with other Intel products, and even less delays when deploying new technologies.

Driving into the details, the new “celestial” GPU is set up to unfold with several interesting manufacturing strategies. For smaller versions, Intel is expected to stick to its own Intel 3 process, but larger versions may use TSMC’s 3NM process. If Intel decides to bring an entire production process in-house, they will likely continue to use Intel 3 technology and even switch to the Intel 18A process. This dual approach shows that Intel wants to keep options open. This mixes the best external technologies available with unique production power. Looking at the timeline, we can expect the new GPU to debut as part of the Panther Lake mobile processor lineup later this year, with more related products coming to the market by 2026.
