Instagram has begun testing a feature where Meta’s AI automatically generates images of users in various situations and inserts them into their feeds. One Redditor posted over the weekend that while scrolling through Instagram, they saw a slideshow of themselves standing in front of an AI-generated “endless maze of mirrors.”
“I used Meta AI to edit my selfie and Instagram used my face in ads targeting me,” the person posted. Users were shown a slideshow of AI-generated images. There, an AI version of yourself stands in front of an endless “mirror maze.” It says “Imagine You: A Maze of Mirrors” and “The Place of the Post.”
The caption of the AI image reads, “Imagine looking back at your life with yourself at the center of an infinite maze of mirrors.” The Reddit user told 404 Media that at one point he had uploaded a selfie of himself to Instagram’s Imagine feature (Meta’s AI image generation feature).

At first, people on Reddit didn’t even believe these were real, saying things like, “It’s a hoax,” “I can’t believe this is true,” “This is a complete lie (lol),” and “Why would you do this? I was posting something like, “I guess so.” Would you like to do this? ” Redditors had to repeatedly explain that yes, this actually happened. “There’s no particular reason to fake this. I posted a screenshot in another thread,” he said. 404 Media sent a link to the Reddit post directly to Meta, who confirmed that it was real but not an “ad.”
