Aiming to realize the dream of flying taxis in India and transform urban mobility, India’s first flying taxi prototype ‘Shunya’ was unveiled at the ‘Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025’ here.
Precision manufacturing company Sona SPEED has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore-based Sarla Aviation towards this goal.
Sarla Aviation develops India’s most sophisticated electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy visited the Sara Aviation booth and expressed keen interest in the flying taxi prototype, which is considered a historic step towards sustainable future mobility for the country.
Sona SPEED motors are being used as part of several space missions of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This agreement positions Sona SPEED as a key partner in revolutionizing urban air mobility in the country.
“This partnership is an important step in Sona SPEED’s evolution as a hub for aerospace innovation.Together, we aim to shape the future of urban transportation that is cleaner, faster and more efficient. ” said Chocko Valliappa, CEO of Sona SPEED.
Under the MoU, Sona SPEED will use its state-of-the-art facility in Karnataka to design and manufacture critical components such as motors and landing gear for Sarla Aviation’s eVTOL aircraft.

Sarla Aviation is focused on developing eVTOL aircraft and aims to transform urban mobility with faster, cleaner and more efficient transportation solutions.
The company plans to begin test flights and develop additional prototypes, with a goal of bringing it to market in 2028.
