Vaishnavi Adkar defeated wildcard contestant Madhurima Sawant 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament held at the District Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Second seed Sahaja Yamalapalli fared better by blanking qualifier Ishwari Mater.

Before the doubles quarterfinals, Smriti Bhasin and Slavya Shivani defeated top seeds Valentini Grammaticopoulou and Ekaterina Yasina in straight sets.
