India overcame New Zealand’s 251-7 and won the 2025 Champions Trophy Final in Dubai by four wickets.

India won the global cricket tournament in a row by winning New Zealand by four wickets at the ICC Champions Trophy Final in Dubai.

Rohit Sharma led the pursuit with 76 off-off of 83 balls, while KL Rahul’s undefeated 34 crossed the finish line 254-6 in 49 overs to win his third Champions Trophy.

The half century between Daryl Mitchell and Michael Blaiswell helped New Zealand, who previously chose to hit first by winning a toss, scored 251-7 in 50 overs at the slow, two-pace Dubai wicket.

Indian captain Sharma provided a fiery start to the Indian innings, hitting seven fours and three sixes. Hardik Pandya scored 18 and 38 runs from 36 balls on the sixth wicket against Rahul.

Sharma ended all speculations about his potential retirement from the international man on the day at a post-match press conference.

The 37-year-old, along with Virat Kohli, announced his retirement from T20 International, which won last year’s T20 World Cup. This led to rumors that something similar might happen in Dubai.

“One more,” Sharma said at the end of the press conference. “I’m not going to retire from this format, just to ensure that the rumors don’t move forward.”

It appears to pave the way for right-handers to lead India at the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

The victory was the 23rd time in 24 matches in the last three men’s ICC events dating back to 2023, and was the only loss against Australia in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final.

Both sides have won this tournament previously. India’s previous success took place in 2013, and they were Pakistan compliant in 2017. They shared the trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002 after a rainy two-day final.

New Zealand won the Champions Trophy (the then ICC Knockout Trophy) in 2000, beating India in the final in Nairobi, Kenya. Blackcaps cabinets remain limited ICC trophies.

All Indian matches took place in Dubai after the Indian government refused permission to visit Pakistan, official hosts of security guards.

Champions Trophy undefeated India

India went through the entire tournament after beating Bangladesh, Pakistan, New Zealand in the group phase and Australia in the semi-finals.

New Zealand defeated Pakistan in Karachi and then defeated Bangladesh in Rawalpindi and traveled to Dubai to play India.

The Blackcap then returned to Pakistan to beat South Africa in the second semi-finals in Lahore.
