New Delhi (India), January 16 (ANI): Chargé d’Affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in India, Abed Elrazegh Abu Jazer, on Thursday said that India is playing a “vital role” in facilitating humanitarian assistance to Gaza residents. He said he could fulfill his role. It follows a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas after more than a year of violent conflict.
The Palestinian envoy highly valued India’s involvement in the region and said the Palestinians were keenly interested in “the Indian flag being hoisted in Gaza” as part of efforts to provide vital assistance to people in need. He said there was.
“We expect India to play an important role in sending humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza…We are keen and interested…and we hope that the Indian flag will be hoisted in Gaza. I hope that it will be done,” he said.
Abu Jazer highlighted the long and historic relationship between India and Palestine, noting that the two countries have shared ties since before India’s independence.
He further acknowledged the respect that Palestinian leaders and other regional leaders have for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who he said is a wise and experienced leader who has built strong relationships with leaders across the region. He said that he was a person.
“We sincerely appreciate and respect India’s engagement in this region and West Asia. We always encourage India to play a key role in achieving peace and prosperity in the region and in the region. “We are enthusiastic and look forward to India’s role as we share a long and historic relationship that predates independence.” Abu Jazer said.
“And the second thing is that the importance of India as a country and the respect that Prime Minister Modi has conveyed through our beliefs as a partner to Palestinians around the world and all in this region of West Asia and the Middle East. ‘From all the leaders of this region,’ he added.
The Palestinian Chargé d’Affaires also emphasized the importance of India’s continued involvement in peace efforts, especially in ensuring the long-term success of the ceasefire agreement. “Prime Minister Modi is a wise man, has a lot of experience, has good connections and relationships with all presidents and prime ministers, and is always looking to interact and work with these leaders. We also want to leverage his personal effectiveness to “work with all partners to achieve stability and prosperity in the region, prolong the ceasefire, and aim for a new region.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Qatar, Egypt and the United States confirmed in a joint statement that Israel and Hamas had reached a ceasefire and hostage release agreement, expected to take effect on January 19.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement on Wednesday that the two countries had reached an agreement to release the hostages in a hostage-prisoner exchange.
US President Joe Biden also announced the successful negotiation of a ceasefire and hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas, ending more than 15 months of conflict. The agreement consists of three phases, the first of which includes a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the release of hostages, including Americans.
Biden also highlighted the accompanying diplomatic efforts, citing support from Israel and the United States, as well as pressure from the 20-nation coalition to counter Houthi attacks.
Following the ceasefire and hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US President-elect Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden.
India also welcomed the agreement on the release of the hostages and the ceasefire in Gaza.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed its hope that the agreement would lead to a “safe and sustainable supply” of humanitarian aid to Gaza residents.
“We welcome the release of the hostages and the announcement of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. We hope that this will lead to a safe and sustainable supply of humanitarian aid to the Gaza population,” the statement said.
The MEA further reiterated India’s call for a return to dialogue and diplomacy.
“We have consistently called for the release of all hostages, a ceasefire, and a return to dialogue and diplomacy,” the statement added.
Hamas launched a horrific terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, killing more than 1,200 civilians and taking more than 250 hostages, about 100 of whom are still being held.
In response, Israel launched a major counterattack targeting Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip. However, the response has also drawn criticism from some humanitarian groups due to the large number of civilian deaths. More than 45,000 people have been killed in Gaza, more than half of them women and children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. (Ani)
