Powered by Apple Intelligence, you can now take AI to the next level by activating ChatGPT and directing your queries, thanks to the iOS 18.2 update. ChatGPT can handle more complex tasks than Apple Intelligence because it leverages a more established and natural processing model.
Apple Intelligence is great at creating personalized suggestions based on your Apple device, and does a great job at creating source characters, rewriting emails, searching more effectively, etc., but ChatGPT doesn’t do that. We’re taking it one step further.

But how can you make sure your Siri questions are sent to ChatGPT instead of being processed by Apple Intelligence? Thankfully, Apple has made that clear. Let’s see how.
1. Enable extensions

ChatGPT must be turned on to use it. To do this, say the phrase “Siri, ask ChatGPT,” followed by an instruction such as “Tell me more about Tom’s Guide.” You will then be asked to activate ChatGPT, so just confirm that this is what you want.
Alternatively, launch the Settings app and tap Apple Intelligence. Then tap “ChatGPT” and select “Setup”. If you already have a ChatGPT account, you can tap Use ChatGPT with your account and enter your username and password.
2. Maintain control of your queries

ChatGPT may require information from your device to fulfill your request. We recommend that you control exactly what data is sent by forcing ChatGPT to warn you every time.
Launch the Settings app, tap Apple Intelligence, tap ChatGPT, and enable Verify ChatGPT Requests. It may be enabled by default.
3. Submit your question directly

Once ChatGPT is set up, you can ask ChatGPT questions. Again, this is easy. Just preface your instructions with “Siri, ask ChatGPT.”
Can’t decide whether to use ChatGPT or Apple Intelligence for your queries? Just say “Siri” and continue asking. Apple Intelligence automatically determines whether ChatGPT is suitable for your assistance and asks for confirmation before switching.
