How much does it cost to live like a millionaire?

From Gucci loafers to opera tickets to yachts, see how expensive living like the ultra-rich has become.

It is becoming more and more expensive to live a rich life every year. This past year is no exception. For more than 40 years, Forbes has created the CLEWI (Cost of Living Extremely Well Index) by tracking a basket of ultra-luxury goods and services, such as thoroughbred yearlings, Chanel handbags, and custom flower arrangements for the home. Masu. CLEWI rose 4.7% this year, slightly lower than last year’s 4.9% rise and significantly lower than 2021’s 10.1% rise. Inflation among the ultra-rich is easing. Still, CLEWI has outperformed the consumer price index, which measures the economy as a whole, and has fallen to 2.7% this year.

CLEWI is a barometer of the highest quality goods on the market, but the prices of luxury goods are subject to similar influences as other parts of the economy, such as rising costs of raw materials and labor. The 60-foot Oyster 595 sailing yacht now costs $3.9 million, a 25% increase from last year. A week at California’s Golden Door Spa costs 8.4% more, and a pair of Gucci loafers costs $1,050, a 14% jump. But not everything is more expensive this year. A kilo of Petrosian’s Ossetra caviar and a 45-minute session with an Upper East Side psychiatrist remained unchanged at $12,980 and $500, respectively.

Of course, rising prices are a concern for ordinary Americans, but members of Forbes’ America’s 400 Richest List have no such concerns. Their combined net worth reached $5.4 trillion this year, a 20% increase over last year, making CLEWI’s 4.7% increase easily within reach for this lucky group.
