Google is rapidly accelerating its AI strategy for 2025, and DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis has announced plans to “largely expand” the product to counter ChatGPT’s growing influence in the artificial intelligence space. It promises significant evolution and updates.
At a recent company-wide 2025 strategy meeting, when faced with an employee’s observation that “ChatGPT is becoming as synonymous with AI as Google search,” CEO Sundar Pichai said that DeepMind’s joint We reserved the opinion of our founder, Demis Hassabis.
“The product itself will evolve significantly over the next year or two,” Hassabis said, promising important developments. “We expect a little more or less” in 2025, Pichai said, presenting a graph showing Gemini 1.5 leading GPT and other competitors. “I think we’re going to be cutting edge.”
Google’s top brass later acknowledged that the company had entered the generative AI race, but remained optimistic. “You don’t always have to be first in history, but you have to execute well and really be best-in-class as a product,” he said. “I think that’s what 2025 is all about.”
Hassabis addressed pricing concerns, acknowledging that he has no plans to match competitors’ $200 monthly subscription fees, and asserting that Google’s $20 monthly Gemini advanced subscription is good value. .
During the strategy session, Pichai emphasized the importance of next year. “I think 2025 will be a critical moment,” he stressed, calling on employees to “internalize the urgency of this moment” as the company grapples with increasing competition and regulatory challenges.
