Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (NYSE:HPE) has announced that it has been commissioned by the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities’ Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) to develop its next high-performance computer, Blue Lion.

The contract for the 250 million euro (approximately $263 million) project, signed on December 13, 2024, is jointly funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Bavarian Ministry of Science and the Arts.

Scheduled to launch in 2027, Blue Lion will drive cutting-edge research in Bavaria and support national science projects as part of the Gauss Supercomputing Center (GCS).

Blue Lion delivers 30x the performance of the previous generation SuperMUC-NG. We support research across astrophysics, particle and quantum physics, fluid mechanics, natural and life sciences, cultural sciences, and more.

This supercomputer is built on next-generation HPE Cray technology and integrates advanced NVIDIA accelerators and processors. In particular, Blue Lion features 100% direct liquid cooling with hot water up to 40°C, allowing efficient use of waste heat.

Professor Dieter Kranzmüller, Director of the Leibniz Supercomputing Center, said: After all, it’s not about having the fastest supercomputer, it’s about providing the best possible support for cutting-edge research with our high-performance infrastructure. ”

“Supercomputing plays a vital role for scientific and social progress as well as national competitiveness. “Blue Lion will significantly increase LRZ’s computing power and position it at the cutting edge of next-generation technology that will set new standards for the future of supercomputing.” hewlett packard said Heiko Meyer, Enterprise Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer. .

Investors can gain exposure to stocks through the First Trust S&P 500 Diversified Dividend Aristocrats ETF (NASDAQ:KNGZ) and Roundhill Generative AI & Technology ETF (NYSE:CHAT).

Price Action: HPE stock was up 0.32% at a pre-market price of $21.90 at last check on Friday.
