Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI has officially released the second version of its AI-powered assistant, Grok, now available as a standalone app for iOS. This new release allows users to access Grok’s features without requiring an X (formerly Twitter) subscription and marks a transition from the original integration within the social platform.
Users can sign in and use your app using email, Apple ID, or other supported login options. Grok 2 offers a tiered subscription model with access to various tools such as question answering and image generation, as well as advanced features for paid users. The move signals xAI’s efforts to compete more aggressively with major AI players such as Google’s Gemini, Meta AI, Claude.ai, and market leader OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Initially, Grok was released in November 2023 and was only available to X subscribers, but by December 2024, a free version with limited functionality was introduced, including a limit of 10 inquiries per day.
