Singer Mariah Carey acknowledged in a public statement to People magazine that she suffered a double personal tragedy over the weekend. In a statement, she expressed relief that she was able to spend the last week with her mother before she passed away. The time and cause of their deaths are not yet known.
Mariah told the magazine: “I lost my mother this past weekend and I am heartbroken. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister took her life on the same day.” She added, “Before my mother passed away… I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week of my life with my mother. Thank you for your love, support, and respect for my privacy during this impossible time. “I will,” he added.
Mariah has been vocal about her complicated relationship with her mother, Patricia.
