While classical computers (such as the one you are currently using to read this glossary) use bits to represent 0 and 1, quantum computers use quantum bits (or qubits). usually an electron, photon, or another subatomic particle.

Connecting qubits together provides much more processing power than binary 0s and 1s.

IBM (IBM), Rigetti Computing, and other companies working to harness quantum computing. Superconducting circuits colder than deep space According to MIT Technology Review, it is possible to create and control qubits. Ion Q (ion Q), another quantum computing company, uses an ultra-high vacuum chamber where individual atoms are trapped in an electromagnetic field on a silicon chip.

Quantum computers can generate and control qubits to perform calculations. However, the more qubits used, the more errors typically occur in the calculation.

“Errors are one of the biggest challenges in quantum computing,” said Hartmut Neben, founder and leader of Google Quantum AI. That’s because “quantum computing tends to rapidly exchange information with the environment, making it difficult to protect the information needed for completion.” It’s a calculation. ”

Google Willow’s ability to reduce the error rate by half despite adding more qubits is known as “subthreshold,” or being able to reduce errors while scaling up the number of qubits. “It’s a historic feat,” Neven said.
