Germany’s Foreign Ministry has launched a new digital platform for visa applications, which Foreign Minister Annalena Verbock hailed in a press release as a “true administrative revolution.”

The digital portal available here aims to allow people who want to work, study and join their families in Germany to easily access the necessary documents.

Applicants can choose from 28 categories of national visas online.

The new portal will be available at all 167 German visa offices worldwide from January 1, 2025.

Complete overhaul of visa process

German Foreign Minister Annalena Verbock praised the new system, saying the reforms were “long overdue.”

“Germany is short of at least 400,000 skilled workers every year,” Burbock said.

“At a time like this, we simply cannot afford to let long paper applications and even longer wait times put us off from rolling up our sleeves and coming here,” she added.

Burbock stressed that Germany, as a nation of immigrants, needs “a modern, digital and secure national visa process”.
