According to European officials, French President Emmanuel Macron convened an emergency meeting of European leaders to discuss the impact of President Donald Trump’s actions.
The meeting scheduled for Monday in Paris was revealed by Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorsky at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. Two European Union officials confirmed the development with Politico.
“We are very pleased that President Macron has called our leader to Paris,” Sikorsky said, stressing that the debate will address Trump’s recent move “in a very serious way.” Ta.
Sikorsky also compared Trump’s approach to foreign policy to Russian military strategy known as Razvedka Boyem, or “combat reconnaissance.” “You push, see what happens, then you change your position and we need to respond,” he added.
Europe’s concerns about Trump’s impact
Trump’s impact on NATO and European security has been a recurring concern among EU leaders. Sikorsky has previously acknowledged Trump’s demands for European countries to increase defence spending, but he has also spoken out about the broader risks that the US president poses to global stability.
However, Macron maintains a sincere relationship with Trump. Following Trump’s reelection in November, the French leader has once again expressed his willingness to work with him. “We are ready to work together for four years. With your beliefs and my beliefs and mine. With respect and ambition. For peace and prosperity,” Macron posted on X.
Trump’s December visit to Paris to reopen Notre Dame further underscored Macron’s diplomatic approach. “Welcome you in five years is a great honor for the Frenchman,” Macron told Trump during his visit, recalling his past support in the wake of the cathedral fire.
