February 10th – FIFA lowered its Club World Cup ticket prices amid low interest.
Late last year, the World Governing Body began selling tickets for the expanded 32-team tournament, the brainchild of FIFA boss Gianni Infantino. Prices due to low interest.
The cheapest tickets for the Final were offered for $300 instead of the original $890. In the semi-finals, supporters can now purchase “cheap” tickets for $140 instead of $526. In the 16th round, ticket prices in the lowest category also fell, with FIFA claiming that price drops are rewarding loyal fans.
Ticket sales have slowed, but FIFA was unable to provide a sales update.
On Sunday, tickets for the opening match, two semi-finals and the final were available. All 63 matches were still listed on Ticketmaster, the official sales platform.
The tournament begins on June 14th, with Intermiami hosting Egyptian Al Arie in Florida, the curtain lazer of the 32-team club tournament, culminating in MetLife Stadium in New Jersey a month later. So far, commercial and broadcast interest for the event has been limited.
The expanded final came for criticism due to the crowds on the calendar. The Club World Cup coincides with both the Conca Caff Gold Cup and the opening of the Women’s Euro 2025 in Switzerland.
Player Union FIFPRO is taking legal action in Europe against FIFA in tournaments.
