The ongoing saga between Elon Musk and Sam Altman-led OpenAI has taken a different turn as Musk appears to have thrown some shade into Altman’s old video. The two AI pioneers, who were once collaborators at OpenAI, are embroiled in a public spat over the company’s direction.
Musk, who has never shied away from online sparring, questioned a video of Sam Altman answering questions during a U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on May 16, 2023 (or frowned).
“You make a lot of money, right?” Altman was asked, to which he replied, “No, I don’t.” Health insurance premiums are also well paid. I have no equity in OpenAI. ”
He also said, “I do it because I love it.”
Elon Musk reshared the video using the “raised eyebrow” emoji, which is often used to express skepticism, disbelief, or amusement.
Musk threw shade at Altman’s vehicle choice
This isn’t the first time Musk has thrown shade at Altman. In July, a video of OpenAI CEO driving a Koenigsegg Regera, one of the world’s most exclusive and expensive hypercars, drew a sharp reaction from Mr. Musk. He responded to two separate clips of Altman.
In one of the clips, Tesla owner Silicon Valley’s x handle posted a question.
“CEO @OpenAl drives one of the most expensive cars. How did Open AI become a for-profit business when it was a non-profit?”
“Great question,” Musk replied.
In another post, someone shared a clip saying, “Next time I’m starting a nonprofit,” to which Musk responded with a laughing emoji.
