Elon Musk claims $50 billion worth of Treasury fraud after Doge Access Ban.

Elon Musk sparked a wave of controversy on social media after a federal judge issued an order that temporarily restricted access to sensitive U.S. Treasury data by the Government’s Department of Efficiency (DOGE). Legal development comes from a lawsuit filed by the Democrats’ Attorney General, with DOGE’s unlimited access to the Treasury’s payment system being confidential, including Social Security, Medicare, veteran benefits, and related information. It claims to violate federal laws designed to protect data. Tax refund.
The order issued Saturday by US District Judge Paul Engelmeyer will temporarily block Doge from gaining full access to financial data until the hearing scheduled for February 20th . Paying qualifications and further strengthening public discourse surrounding the case. His posts call for billions of dollars in fraudulent payments, criticism of past Treasury officials, proposals to wipe out reforms in government fiscal surveillance, and calls for greater accountability from lawmakers. Requests were included.

Judges restrict access to Treasury data amid fears of data breaches

The temporary restraining order issued by Judge Engelmayer is a direct response to concerns raised by a coalition of 19 Democrat Attorney Generals. The lawsuit alleges that by providing unlimited access to Doge’s Treasury Department’s payment system, it undermines the sensitive data protection outlined in a variety of federal laws, including the Privacy Act and Social Security Act.
The Attorney General said that Doge access could potentially release important information, leading to data breaches or misuse of personal information related to qualification programs such as Medicare, Social Security, and Veterans’ Interests. It claims there is. The court order will limit access to Doge’s financial data and further deliberations will take place on the merits of the litigation until the scheduled hearing is held on February 20th.

Elon Musk’s reaction and allegations of Treasury fraud

Following the court’s order, Elon Musk unleashed a series of posts from X, claiming that Doge had already discovered significant irregularities in the Treasury’s payment system before legal restrictions. Musk claimed that more than $100 billion in qualification payments are made to individuals without a Social Security Number (SSNS) or temporary ID number per year.
“(Friday) I was told that I am currently more than $100 billion a year for paying qualifications to individuals who don’t have a Social Security number or temporary ID number. If accurate, this is what I would say. is very suspicious.” The mask wrote.
Musk further argued that Treasury insiders estimate that half of these payments, or about $50 billion per year, could be categorized as “clear and obvious fraud.” These allegations sparked widespread debate, supporting Musk’s call for greater scrutiny of government spending, and supporting others’ criticism of his approach as sensationalist.

Elon Musk blows up former Treasury officials for blocking fraud investigations

Musk did not limit his criticism to fraudulent payments. He directed former Treasury officials to make sharp remarks and accused them of suppressing efforts to investigate useless government spending.
“No one in financial management cared enough.” Posted by Musk. “I want to praise the work-level people at the Treasury Department, who have wanted to do this for many years, but have been stopped by previous management.”
Musk said Doge had worked with the Treasury on measures to strengthen financial surveillance before the court intervention. These measures included the introduction of payment classification codes for all outgoing government payments that masks argued were essential to conducting effective audits. He criticizes the current system and argues that many transactions do not have proper coding, hindering audit efforts and accountability.

Musk asks for explanations of mandatory payments in the Treasury records

Musk proposed a mandatory document on the basis of payments in the Treasury records. He criticized the common practice of blanking comment fields in payment records, arguing that the lack of this document undermines efforts to track and justify government spending.
“The important thing is that we have not yet applied judgment to this rationale, but we are requiring that we make an attempt to explain the payment more than just nothing!” Musk emphasized in his post. He suggested that even minimal documents improve transparency and make it easier to identify suspicious transactions or patterns that indicate fraud.

Security concerns and “do-not-pay” list

Musk also highlighted the issue with the “do-not-pay” list, a government tool designed to prevent payments to fraudulent entities, deceased individuals, or individuals associated with terrorist organizations. Musk criticized the slow update process of the list, claiming it would take up to a year to add fraudulent entities, allowing payments to continue without receiving payments.
“It can take up to a year to be on this list right now, but this is too long. This list should be updated at least weekly, if not daily.” Musk insisted.
He emphasizes that the proposed reforms are primarily driven by professional government employees within the Treasury Department, not by Doge staff, and that there is internal support for these changes. It’s there.

Musk’s final criticism of the finance ministry’s financial management

To close his post, Musk has led to harsh criticism of the Treasury’s historical approach to financial management. He argued that departmental practices focus primarily on minimizing complaints rather than ensuring financial integrity.
“Everything at the Treasury was directed at minimizing complaints. People who receive the money don’t complain, but people who don’t receive the money (especially the con artists) complain very loudly, so , the fraud was allowed to continue. The mask wrote.
Musk’s remarks suggest that the Ministry of Finance’s approach has historically prioritized avoiding backlash against implementing thorough fraud detection and prevention.
