Ed Sheeran took him to a busy street in southern India this weekend and surprised fans with his live performance, but the police quickly dived and pulled the plug on the British singer.
The four Grammy Award winners were during a show in a southern city in Bangalore.
However, images released on social media show that in the middle of the production of “Shape of You” of “Shape of You” which is a uniform policeman, the singer urged him to reach out in frustration .
Local police say they had previously denied permission from Sheeran, a local Basque, and citizens said they called a helpline to report the violation after he began playing.
“We refused because Church Street is a very busy area and we are trying to keep people moving there,” said Shekal H. Tekkannaval, deputy director of police in central Bengaluru. He told CNN on Monday.
However, Sheeran claimed that everything was clearly given to the street gig.
“We allowed the Basques,” Sheeran told Instagram shortly after Sunday’s incident. (Street Performance) was previously planned, but it wasn’t just us that showed up randomly. ”
CNN contacted Sheeran’s representative for comment.
The incident went viral on social media, with one user posting some of Sheeran’s performances on X.
“I went for a casual walk around Church Street and stumbled upon Ed Sheeran performing live. What a town!”
Other online reactions have been critical for local governments, with some saying performance is unlikely to cause problems, while focusing on more important issues, such as traffic congestion and water shortages in cities of around 14 million. Some say it should.
Sheeran is a popular Indian artist and made a sold-out gig in Mumbai last year.
He plans to do two more shows in India before heading to China and the United Arab Emirates.
