President-elect Donald Trump said at a Sunday rally in Washington ahead of his scheduled inauguration on Monday that the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas was a victory for the Republican Party in the US elections in November. He said that this was a direct result of.

“This agreement could only have been achieved as a result of November’s historic victory,” he said.

He hailed the ceasefire agreement as “magnificent” and characterized it as “a first step towards lasting peace in the Middle East.”

“I’m happy to report that the first hostage has been released,” Trump added.

“I know Biden says he has a deal.”

He repeated his earlier claim that the war would not have happened if he had been president. “First of all, that would never have happened if I had been president,” he said, adding, “Iran would have been bankrupt.”

He thanked Steve Witkoff, the incoming special envoy to the Middle East, for his “contribution to this major breakthrough.”

At the rally, Witkoff held his cell phone and showed photos of the three freed hostages. “I received photos on my cell phone of the first three hostages released.”

He asserted that Trump was “responsible for this release.”
