If your Android phone doesn’t have any major AI features, it’s probably an older model or budget device. But does that mean you need to upgrade to the latest and best to completely lock Android possibilities? In most cases, it’s not the case. This is because you can access the Google Gemini app for free on Android. Premium features are available through Gemini Advanced and other subscription tiers, but the free version still offers many features.

Although it does not offer system-wide integration like the Samsung Galaxy S25 or Pixel 9 series, Gemini AI enables a wide range of features within the app. Here’s how to get started with the app and what to expect:

How to get Gemini AI on Android phone

Step 1: Open the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Search for Gemini.

Step 3: Open the first result and tap Install.

Step 4: Once installed, open the app and start using it.

Note: The Gemini app has specific hardware and software requirements. First, your phone needs to have at least 2GB of RAM and run Android 10 or later.

What can you do with the Gemini AI app?

Creating Images: You can generate images using Google’s Gemini AI model simply by sending a detailed prompt. For example, “Create a realistic image of a rabbit in 3D style.” “Create a cartoon-style image of a cat dancing on Mount Everest while holding a bazooka.”

Text Summary, Rewrite – Similar to Apple’s writing tools. Another useful feature of GeminiAI is text summaries and rewriting. If you don’t need to condense what someone is sending or long text, enter the text within the Gemini app and use a prompt such as “Summary this” or “Modify Grammar.”

Fashion Recommendations: This is an interesting feature of the Gemini app. You can upload images and request costume suggestions. For example, upload your own photo and ask, “How can I improve my outfit?”

Interview Practice: Interview Practice is another great use case. You can engage in Gemini Live AI conversations by tapping the icon in the bottom right corner. This also allows for natural sound interactions with Google’s Gemini models.
