Disney decides to abolish
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will still feature transgender characters, but the creators have removed references to their gender identity from the dialogue.
A Disney spokesperson said in a statement, “When it comes to animated content for younger audiences, we recognize that many parents prefer to discuss specific themes with their children on their own terms and timelines.” confirmed that the storyline had been deleted.
A source close to Win or Lose revealed that the studio made the decision to change direction several months ago. The studio declined further comment.
actor’s reaction
The show was supposed to feature a transgender character, voiced by Chanel Stewart. As soon as the news surfaced, 18-year-old Chanel came forward and stressed that she was “extremely disappointed” in the move.
“From the moment I received the script, I was excited to share my journey to empower other trans youth. I knew this would be a very important conversation. “Gender stories matter and deserve to be heard,” she told Deadline.
She added that Disney told her that her character was still “heavily” on the show, but that she was “going to be a cis girl, a straight cis girl.”
Chanel applied for the role in 2020 after seeing a social media post that Pixar was looking for a transgender girl to voice a transgender teenager in the series.
