Israel has launched deadly airstrikes against Yemen’s power plants, ports and oil facilities, killing at least nine people and marking an escalation in the conflict with Houthi fighters, according to reports.
Houthi-affiliated TV station al-Masira reported on Thursday that nine people were killed and three others injured in an Israeli attack on Hodeidah.
The broadcaster earlier reported that the airstrike hit two power plants in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and caused damage to an oil facility and Hodeidah port.
The Israeli military said the attack targeted “military targets” associated with Houthi fighters after intercepting a missile fired toward Israel, according to Al Jazeera.
The Houthi-run Sabah news agency said Israeli warplanes conducted six air strikes on two power plants in southern and northern Sanaa, as well as six other facilities in Hodeidah, killing several people.
The raid on Hodeidah targeted the city’s port and Ras Isa oil facility.
“The enemy launched four offensive raids targeting ports and two raids targeting oil facilities,” Al Jazeera quoted the agency as saying.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with more outside forces involved in Yemen’s ongoing war.
