Type 1 Energy X TVA is working together to develop a Tennessee fusion power plant, telling you a key step towards sustainable energy commercialization. The Infinity Two project aims to provide a 350 MWE Stellarator fusion power plant by the mid-2030s and leverage TVA’s infrastructure and expertise to accelerate clean energy development. The project reduces costs by reusing a retired fossil fuel site. It promotes the transition from coal and gas to fused energy, supporting the energy needs of Tennessee Valley while enhancing grid stability.
The initiative is based on Project Infinity, a partnership between Type 1 Energy, TVA and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. With an emphasis on site selection, environmental reviews and licensing, this collaboration aims to establish a scalable model for fusion power. Additionally, Type 1 Energy will work with TVA’s Power Services Shop to streamline manufacturing and strengthen the fusion energy supply chain. Workforce development is also a priority, ensuring that the region is a hub of expertise in fusion technology.
As fusion energy approaches commercialization, this partnership represents a breakthrough to increase carbon-free electricity. By combining cutting-edge fusion research with TVA experience, Infinity Two could serve as a model for future clean energy projects.
