Chennai Open: Kyrian Jacquet wins title past Ymer

Chennai: Shortly after winning the Open Challenger Men’s Singles title in Chennai on Sunday, Killian Jacket humbly stated that he wasn’t playing the best tennis of a week. However, during his journey to the French crown, he defeated two seeded players, dropping only one set.
The 23-year-old Jacket level was enough to comfortably beat Sweden’s Elias Emer 7-6 (1), 6-4 in the finals.
At SDAT Stadium, Jacquet made an early breakthrough, taking a 4-2 lead in the opening set. Ymer refused to retreat, but defeating Jacquet’s serve in the eighth game, pushing the set into the tiebreaker. However, the tiebreaker was a one-sided event, with the Swedes making six forced errors and making little use of Jacket.
In the second set, Ymer’s unforced error continued to give Jacquet the advantage, and soon the former followed 1-4. Eemer fought back and won three games in a row, but he was ultimately upset. Contradictions creep up and errors began to pile up. The jacket, which maintains his composure, cruised comfortably to the victory with a double shortcoming from Ymer, who sealed the victory.
The jacket worked with a strategy of using slices effectively and getting pace out of the ball. In doing so, he disrupts Eemer’s rhythm and forces him to create more pace for his shots. “I played a lot of slices during every match because I like to play slices to change the rhythm. I try to make my opponents unstable. Yeah, I do well today (Sunday). “I did,” Jasett said.
Jacket previously said he believes his tennis is better than what his current rankings reflect. A string of injuries last year forced him to be on the sidelines for eight months, which led to a decline in his rankings. His performance in Chennai showed him on the comeback trail, proving his potential. “I play better than my rank, and I’m sure. Last year was really tough, but I did all the work I was ready to come here. I got better and better as the days went by. So I’m really happy with that week. Keep playing like this and you’ll get faster (in the rankings).’
Jacquet surpasses 60 locations and approaches the top 200 mark on the ATP Singles chart.
