ChatGpt vs Perplexity: Sam Altman praises Aravind Srinivas’ deep research AI. “I’m proud of you.”

Openai CEO Sam Altman praised Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas for building a deep-rooted research project based on China’s Deepseek AI. In particular, Openai recently launched deep research into ChatGpt, urging Srinivas to bring similar products, although accurate, faster and cheaper.

The conversation began with Altman unveiling a new update to CHATGPT (based on the GPT-4O model).

“We put out an update to ChatGpt (4o). It’s pretty good. It’s getting much better soon and the team is cooking,” Altman wrote to X.

The vague post received a reply from Srinivas, who asked, “What’s the update?”

In reply, Openai explained: “Of many other things, it is the best search product on the web! Check out your thoughts.”

Seeing the reaction, Srinivas contained the excitement and said, “Lol, I’ve reaped ydays on you, I checked this.

Rather than a small thing about the issue, Altman probably refers to a conversation from the recently concluded Paris AI Summit, saying that he would let this go as Srinivas apologized directly to him for all the “average tweets” .

“I apologized directly to me for all the average tweets from last week, so I’m going to let this go 🙂 Keep cooking there! I’m proud of you,” Altman wrote back.

In-depth research on Perplexity vs ChatGpt:

According to Perplexity, its deep research tool runs dozens of searches, reads hundreds of sources and reasons, and reads what to do next, just as the way human researchers approach topics. Once the source material is complete, the AI agent can collect all the information into a “clear and comprehensive report” and export it as a PDF or a confused page to share with friends and family.

With its own admission, confusion lags behind ChatGpt’s deep studies on humanity’s final test accuracy rankings. However, Perplexity claims that its latest AI offering will beat Gemini Thinking, O3-Mini, Grok 2, Claude 3.5 Sonnet and more on the same benchmark.

While deep research on Perplexity may not be as close to ChatGpt in terms of accuracy, Srinivas claims that the new AI tool is “orders of magnitude faster and cheaper” than Openai offers I’m doing it. In particular, ChATGPT Deep Research only offers 100 queries to Pro users compared to 500 queries per day for paid users and limited queries for free users.
