Investing.com – UK shares rose after the close on Thursday, with sector gains leading share gains.

The stock rose 1.11% at the London close.

The best performers in the session are: Fresnillo PLC (LON:) rose 4.51% or 28.00 points to close at 649.50. Meanwhile, Marks & Spencer Group PLC (LON:) added 3.68% or 13.80 points to end at 389.30, while Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:) gained 3.48% or 19.80 points in late trade. and ended at 588.40.

The worst performer in the session was B&M Europe Value Retail SA (LON:), down 2.78% or 10.20 points to close at 356.80. Howden Joinery Group Plc (LON:) fell 1.70% or 13.50 points to end at 780.00 and Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:) fell 1.25% or 5.50 points to end at 434.60.

On the London Stock Exchange, advancing issues outnumbered declining issues by 1,159 to 586, ending the day unchanged at 647.

Gold futures for February delivery rose 1.18% ($31.14) to $2,672.14 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude oil for February delivery rose 2.64% or $1.89 to $73.61 per barrel, while the March contract for Brent crude rose 2.34% or 1.75 to $76.39 per barrel. Traded.

GBP/USD fell by 1.13% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP was unchanged by 0.27% at 0.83.

Dollar index futures rose 0.73% to 109.09.
