Hours before former prime minister Manmohan Singh is buried on Saturday, a row over his monument continues, with the Bharatiya Janata Party urging Congress to refrain from playing dirty politics in his name.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about exploring the possibility of constructing a memorial to Manmohan Singh at the same spot where his last rites will be performed.
“This is in line with the tradition of placing memorials at funerals of politicians and former prime ministers,” the parliament speaker said.
In a press release issued later, the Center said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that a memorial site for Dr Singh will be allocated, while adding that cremation and other formalities can proceed in the meantime. Ta.
Senior Indian Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also called it an insult to India’s first Sikh prime minister and said people could not understand why the Center could not find a place for the memorial, and immediately called out the Bharatiya Janata Party. denounced.

The BJP said the Congress should stop playing dirty politics over Dr Singh’s death. The party’s statement said, “Congress should remember how it treated former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao Ji after his death. Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter also expressed how her father, a former president, was treated so poorly by Congress. They’re tweeting about how they’ve been treated.”
Dr Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. He also served as President of the Reserve Bank of India and Finance Minister under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He passed away at the age of 92 at AIIMS Delhi on Thursday.
Dr Singh’s remains will be kept at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters for an hour from 8.30am for the public and Congress officials to pay their respects. Singh’s final journey will be from the headquarters to the crematorium at 9:30 am on Saturday, party general secretary KC Venugopal said. His last rites will be performed with state honors on Saturday at 11:45 am at Nigambor Ghat in New Delhi.
