Bella Hadid has no plans to bring back skinny jeans just yet. But she’s ready to bring back another controversial denim trend of yesteryear: flared jeans.
Hadid was spotted in downtown Manhattan yesterday wearing light-wash bottoms featuring bell flares. At the top, Hadid’s jeans are thigh-hugging, perhaps hinting that the model will be participating in a full skinny jeans comeback in the near future. For now, she’s fine wearing slightly skinny jeans with a distinctly Western flair.
Hadid accented her jeans with a chocolate brown leather coat lined with fur, chunky square-toed boots, and black “dad” glasses. A graphic tee and charm necklace completed everything. Her look was clearly more of a 70’s rock star than a 00’s indie queen.
Hadid famously styles herself for such occasions, often scouring sites like eBay and Depop for the perfect vintage piece. It’s no surprise that her Penny Lane coat and faded denim are old, second-hand items.
But Hadid’s latest looks, primarily her choice of denim and outerwear, as well as many of her recent appearances, also have strong Western influences. Perhaps it’s the influence of her cowboy boyfriend, Adan Banuelos, or her long-standing status as an avid equestrian.
Either way, this isn’t the first time Hadid has been drawn to this style of flared pants. This fall, models regularly turned to bell-bottom pants, pairing them with everything from plunging black tops and pointy cowboy boots to studded Valentino bags and businesswoman blazers.
While these looks certainly have a bohemian influence, Hadid is clearly pivoting towards pure Western wear. Her outfits feel like an extension of 2024’s bohemian trends, favoring practical boots, flared equestrian bottoms, and shearling outerwear over ruffled lace and sheer ruffles.
And really, if there’s anyone who can convince us to dig deep into our closets for those forgotten flared bottoms, it’s definitely Hadid.
