From India’s PV Magazine

BatX Energies has opened a lithium battery recycling and critical mineral extraction plant in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The facility will use hydrometallurgical processes to extract critical materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese from used lithium-ion batteries. Efficiently recycle all types of lithium-ion battery waste, including manufacturing waste from upcoming gigafactories.

The battery recycling plant follows the 2022 launch of BatX’s first black mass production facility in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, and scaled up operations to commercial level after a successful 21-month industrial pilot.

“This transformative step in the downstream battery recycling value chain leverages BatX’s proprietary chemical process to extract high-purity critical materials that are ideal for specialty applications and the lithium-ion battery manufacturing industry.” the company said.

BatX Energies’ new facility combines material extraction with second-life energy storage applications to support batteries at every stage of their lifecycle. The company reportedly uses zero-emission, zero-waste processes to achieve low energy consumption.

“This pioneering approach not only makes critical materials for EV batteries more affordable and available, but also makes it easier to comply with the Ministry of Environment and Forests’ Battery Waste Management Regulations 2022,” the company said. said.
