Beijing – China Baidu As new players like Deepseek disrupt the segment, sources familiar with the issue say they plan to release the next generation of artificial intelligence models later this year.

Ernie 5.0, known as the “Foundation Model,” states that it “has a large extension to multimodal functionality” without specifying any features. “Multimodal” AI can process text, video, images and audio and combine them to convert them from text to video and vice versa.

The basic model can understand language and perform a wide range of tasks, including text and image generation, and communication in natural language.

Baidu’s planned update is as Chinese companies compete to develop innovative AI models for competition with Openai and other US-based companies. In late January, Hangzhou-based startup Deepseek encourages global high-tech stock sales with the release of an open-source AI model, moving users with its inference capabilities and claims that it will dramatically cover Openai’s ChatGpt with cost. I let it go.

“We live in an exciting time… (the basic model) inference costs can be reduced by more than 90% in 12 months,” Baidu CEO Robin Li said this week’s World Government in Dubai. It is stated at the summit. That’s according to a press release in his Fireside chat with Omar Sultan Al Orama, Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications in the United Arab Emirates.

“If you can reduce costs at a certain percentage, that means your productivity will increase at that rate. I think that’s the nature of innovation,” Li said.

Baidu was the first Chinese tech company to deploy a chatbot like ChatGpt called Arnie in March 2023. But despite the initial momentum, its products are covered in other Chinese AI chatbots and large-scale technology companies from startups. Alibaba And then the Baite Dance.

Alibaba shares have so far rise 33% per year, while Baidu shares have risen 6%. Tencent has so far earned around 4% per year. Bytedance is not listed.

Baidu’s Arnie model already supports the integration of generation AI across a range of enterprise consumer and business products, including cloud storage and content creation.

Last month, Baidu said the Wenku platform for creating presentations and other documents reached 40 million paying users since the end of 2024, an increase of 60% since the end of 2023. The company’s financial statements began to be rolled out to users in January.

The current version of the Arnie model is Generation 4, released in October 2023. The upgraded “Turbo” version of Ernie 4.0 was released in August 2024. Baidu has not officially announced plans to release the next-generation update.

The latest version of Openai’s ChatGPT GPT GPT GPT was released in May 2024. Openai CEO Sam Altman said in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything Anything” session that there was no public timeline for the release of GPT-5.

Baidu did not respond to requests for comment.
