Rumors about Apple’s first foldable iPhone have been circulating for quite some time. The Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly gearing up to launch the device next year, following in the footsteps of competitors such as Samsung, Huawei and Motorola. A trusted tipster has provided new information about the foldable iPhone. Apple’s foldable will use an advanced display provided by Samsung Display and is said to be released in 2026.
Apple’s foldable iPhone features cutting-edge technology
Tipster Jukanlosreve (@Jukanlosreve) cited South Korean news outlet Kipost as saying that Apple will start producing the first foldable iPhone next May. It is a book-style foldable phone similar to the design of Galaxy Z Fold series phones, with a small external display for quick work and a large internal screen that unfolds for a tablet-like experience. It could be something you’re prepared for.
The foldable iPhone is said to be officially released in September 2026, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 lineup.
Apple is said to have set an annual production target of 15 million to 20 million units of this foldable device. Similar to the recent iPhone lineup, Samsung Display is expected to offer a foldable OLED panel on the foldable iPhone. It is said to be equipped with cutting-edge technology that surpasses all existing foldable smartphones.
The iPhone maker has not yet announced plans to launch a foldable phone. According to recent reports, Apple is aiming to launch two foldable devices in the next few years. One could be a larger device with a 19-inch screen, and there could be a smaller model that functions as a foldable iPhone with a larger screen than the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Once announced, the rumored iPhone Fold will compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, Vivo X Fold series, OnePlus Open, Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Huawei’s Mate series. Other Chinese smartphone makers such as Oppo and Xiaomi have also launched foldable smartphones in the country in recent years.
