Apple iPhone SE 2025 gets some big upgrades, but at a higher cost: report

Apple is gearing up for a major redesign of the iPhone SE, aimed at modernizing its most affordable model. Bloomberg reports that the 2025 update, known as V59, will introduce Face ID, remove the home button, and make major changes from the current design. The move is aimed at making the iPhone SE more appealing in developing markets and aligning it with Apple’s flagship devices.

The next iPhone SE will feature a more modern look, ditching the long-standing home button and adopting Face ID and Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-driven platform. This redesign brings the SE closer to the flagship iPhone, offering a premium feel at a more affordable price point.

The iPhone SE currently costs $429 in the US, but these upgrades could increase the price. However, Apple may keep older models at a reduced price of around $200 to strengthen its presence in emerging markets. This strategy may prove beneficial in price-sensitive regions. In India, the iPhone SE is priced at Rs 47,600.

Equipped with Apple’s own Sinope modem and base-level A19 chip, performance is expected to improve. These components reflect Apple’s efforts to improve connectivity and processing speed and reduce dependence on external suppliers such as Qualcomm.

The updated iPhone SE also plays a key role in Apple’s AI initiatives by integrating the Apple Intelligence platform for advanced photography, personalization, and on-device AI processing. This is consistent with Apple’s broader strategy to position itself as a leader in artificial intelligence.

In addition to the iPhone SE, Apple plans to update other products in early 2025. The new entry-level iPad is expected to be equipped with an A17 Pro chip and 8GB of memory, while the iPad Air will be equipped with an M4 chip, closing the gap with the iPad Pro. Meanwhile, 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models will launch with the M4 chip, delivering increased performance at a competitive price.

2025 is set to be a pivotal year for Apple, with iPhone SE integrating proprietary silicon and cutting-edge features like Apple Intelligence, paving the way for future innovations. Apple’s exploration of thinner devices and foldable technology highlights the company’s forward-thinking approach.
