The Los Angeles Angels have added several veteran players to their roster after a disastrous 99-loss season in 2024. The AL West team is expected to add several more contract players during the offseason.
The Angels have been rumored to be signing All-Star outfielder Anthony Santander and coveted first baseman Pete Alonso in free agency in recent weeks.
MLB insider Robert Murray offered his opinion on the possibility of Santander or Alonso signing with the Angels. Murray feels Santander is a better fit for the AL West team compared to Alonso.

He said this on the podcast “The Baseball Insiders” (starting at 26:55).
“We’ve seen them linked with all kinds of different names here, whether it’s Pete Alonso or Anthony Santander. I know they’re looking at different things, but , Santander is also one of them, and I don’t think Alonso was that name.”The most likely option is there by any means.
“Perri Minassian (Angels GM) is always looking at the market, both free agency and trade, to see what’s out there. He’s active. Let’s hope he’s not hibernating. But I don’t necessarily think Alonso is the most likely option, but the Mets are still the most likely option. I think they are considering Santander.”
Murray feels Santander is a good fit for the Angels, but the former Orioles outfielder has been strongly linked to a move to the Blue Jays, who would complement Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. We are aiming to acquire a powerful hitter.
Former MLB slugger questions Pete Alonso’s possibility of joining the Angels
Robert Murray isn’t the only one criticizing Pete Alonso’s potential move to the Angels, with former MLB slugger Kevin Fransen also questioning Alonso’s suitability for Anaheim.
“It’s weird because you’re trying to get interest from teams. It doesn’t make sense in Anaheim, it doesn’t make sense. Everybody wants Pete Alonso, but if your roster is Nolan Chanuel, Jorge… Soler, Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon are unknowns, but let me know how that fits,” Fransen said on MLB Network Radio.
The Boston Red Sox have also been floated as a candidate for Anthony Santander, while the New York Mets are reportedly in contention to bring Pete Alonso back.
