After Tottenham lost to Arsenal in the first north London derby of the season in September, Postecoglou defiantly declared he would “always win trophies” in his second season.
These were comments aimed at allaying fans’ fears about a trophy-less season, but as Postecoglou himself said, they have been used to mock him after a poor result.
Silverware remain in the Europa League fixtures against Tottenham and hold a 1-0 first-leg advantage against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
But Postecoglou knows results should improve soon.
He added: “Of course the loss hurt for me. It’s unacceptable. We’ve lost too many times this year. Too many games have been away from us.
“That has to stop.”
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown feels the pressure is increasing on Postecoglou and says his style of play can sometimes come at a cost as he continues to play high-press games.
“Tottenham took so many risks and Arsenal took advantage of that. The game was very open,” Keown said on TNT Sport.
“Manchester United will probably be better than Spurs. It’s a difficult moment for them and the manager is skating on thin ice.”
Former Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon said: “One win in nine games is simply not good enough.
“This is causing a lot of anxiety in the[Tottenham]camp. If they hadn’t played in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, there would have been a big problem.”
Sonson said players also need to stand up and be counted.
“It’s up to the players,” said the striker. We have to ask what we want to do. I don’t think we were disciplined enough.
“We have to improve in all aspects. If you look at the standings, we are still not good enough.”
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand criticized Tottenham’s defense, saying: “It’s like watching an under-18 academy game when the kids are training themselves.” Ta.
“I was yelling at the goalkeepers and defenders: Don’t play into the press, play above the press.”
