Anduril Industries, a manufacturer of autonomous systems and weapons, has selected Columbus, Ohio, for its first hyperscale manufacturing facility.
The facility, named Arsenal-1, will be built with the goal of helping the United States and its allies become self-sufficient in the race for autonomous systems and drones.
At full scale, the facility will span 5 million square feet and will produce tens of thousands of military systems annually, Anduril said. Additionally, the company said there is room for further expansion of its manufacturing facilities.
Arsenal-1 in Ohio joins Anduril’s other facilities, including a solid rocket motor factory in Mississippi, a robotic submarine facility in Rhode Island, a launch effects factory in Georgia, an XL-AUV factory in Australia, and a production facility in California. He will join the factory.
Anduril’s new manufacturing facility – Arsenal-1
Anduril said Arsenal-1 has long-term scalability and will manufacture and produce most of its autonomous weapons, sensors and systems at full rate.
The company said in a press release that the facility is located near Rickenbacker Airport. The location “provides access to two 12,000-foot runways and a 75-acre private apron capable of supporting military-sized aircraft, ensuring rapid delivery of components and systems to customers.”
Anduril also said the company is investing nearly $1 billion in the development of Arsenal-1, which is estimated to bring more than 4,000 direct jobs to Ohio.
“Anduril and Palmer Lackey are world-class innovators, and I couldn’t be more excited to have them come to Ohio. Our state is open for business,” said Sen. Bernie Moreno. Ta.
“Ohio consistently leads in manufacturing and we are thrilled that Anduril has chosen Columbus as the home of Arsenal-1. This one-of-a-kind facility is a transformative investment. It will enable our country to be a leader in technology development, job creation, and strengthening national security.”
The company has said it aims to help the U.S. produce even more autonomous systems than it currently has, which could also be seen as an attempt to overtake China.
Anduril plans to hyperscale weapons manufacturing in collaboration with Arsenal, a software-defined manufacturing platform optimized for mass production of autonomous systems and weapons.
More information about the facility and past funding
The facility will utilize a set of commercial manufacturing tools, machinery and processes common to all types of autonomous vehicles manufactured by Anduril.
The basis of Arsenal-1 is Arsenal OS, an integrated digital software platform that integrates the design, development and production stages of all Anduril products.
The decision to build the facility in Ohio followed an extensive year-long research process that evaluated numerous locations across the United States. Construction of the facility is expected to begin immediately, with production expected to begin in July 2026.
Anduril announced early last year that it had secured $1.5 billion in Series F funding to advance defense manufacturing. The company was valued at $14 billion in its Series F round. At the time, the company said it planned to build a massive facility to manufacture autonomous platforms for modern warfare.
