Amazon.com’s home security division Ring on Monday announced upgrades to its smoke and carbon monoxide monitoring capabilities, as well as higher quality video for some of its cameras.
The company is partnering with smoke alarm maker Kidde on a new line of detectors that integrate Ring technology, including mobile notifications through the Ring app. The two companies will release the alarm in April. In the same month, Ring will also launch a $5 (approximately Rs. 430) per month service that provides access to personnel who can monitor smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and notify users’ emergency contacts. It works with the new Ring detector developed by Kidde, as well as previous Ring products, the Alarm Smoke and CO Listener.
The new service debuts as Amazon’s hardware division looks for new ways to generate recurring revenue. Ring has been expanding its subscription offerings in recent months, and the new fire-related offerings can be purchased separately from the main Ring Home subscription service.
Ring will also upgrade the video quality of footage captured by existing Floodlight Cam Pro and Spotlight Cam Pro devices from standard high definition to 2K resolution.
The company made the announcement at the beginning of CES, a major technology conference being held in Las Vegas this week.
