Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai is scheduled to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration. It’s not a shock. Everyone else in the tech industry will be in attendance, and Google/Alphabet has already announced it will donate $1 million to the event. This is definitely a sign of the times.
The tech army heading into President Donald Trump’s inauguration next week is growing in size. Google CEO Sundar Pichai is also expected to participate, according to people familiar with his plans.
Pichai joins Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Tesla’s Elon Musk, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, and Uber’s Dara Khosrowshahi, who are planning to arrive in Washington when President Trump takes office. He joins a long list of Valley CEOs. Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Apple CEO Tim Cook will also be in attendance.
It’s no surprise that Pichai will also be participating. Last week, his company announced it would donate $1 million to President Trump’s inaugural committee — as many other tech giants have also announced.
It should also be noted that when Trump first won the presidential election in 2016, he brought together technology company CEOs for a visit.
But that visit was to Trump Tower in New York City before the inauguration in 2017, and most of it was done primarily off-camera.
The point this time is to make sure everyone knows you’re there and that Donald Trump knows everyone knows.
