Strong presence in Mangalore
Mangalore, a major coastal city in Karnataka, is known for its vibrant economy, educational institutions, and proximity to the global diaspora.
Currently, AIX connects Mangalore with international flights to eight destinations in the Middle East. Air India Express serves cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Jeddah, catering to the expat community in the region.
For domestic flights, Air India Express operates flights to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kannur. The airline recently introduced flights to Pune. The new Delhi and Mumbai flights are a significant addition to Air India Express’ operations from the city.
This enhanced domestic connectivity will give passengers easier access to international flights via India’s largest aviation hubs, Delhi and Mumbai.

AI group battle
Air India Group has undergone many changes to remain competitive in the Indian aviation market. IndiGo Airlines (6E) is undoubtedly the biggest competitor to Air India Group.
IndiGo operates 3 daily flights from Mumbai to Mangalore. The shift of the Mumbai-Mangalore flight from the mainline to Air India Express reflects the lower yields in this segment. IndiGo already has daily flights to Delhi.
However, Air India Express continues to be an important airline for Mangalore when it comes to international flights. IndiGo only flies to two destinations within the Gulf. The airline flies to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Air India Express recently started bookings for its much-awaited flights to Singapore. However, problems with significantly lower bookings reportedly forced the airline to close reservations before flights began.
