MUMBAI – Adani Group has acquired India’s largest civil aviation MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) company Air Works for $47 million. This strategic acquisition is in line with Adani’s vision to strengthen India’s aviation infrastructure and enhance both civil and defense aviation capabilities.

The transaction, concluded through Adani Defense Systems & Technologies Ltd (ADSTL), includes an 85.8% stake in Air Works and further consolidates the Group’s position as a leader in the aviation sector.

Adani Group acquires Air Works MRO

Air Works, a pioneer in aviation MRO services, has operations across 35 cities in India, supported by a team of over 1,300 professionals.

The company’s expertise spans comprehensive aviation services including line maintenance, critical inspection, avionics, aircraft painting and interior refurbishment.

It also provides base maintenance for narrow-body, turboprop and rotary aircraft from its facilities in Hosur (NIL), Mumbai (BOM) and Kochi (COk).

The acquisition will enable Adani to integrate Air Works’ capabilities into its portfolio, increasing the group’s ability to provide end-to-end aviation solutions.

Notably, Air Works has received regulatory approvals from more than 20 international aviation authorities, making us a trusted partner for customers worldwide and domestically.

The move also comes at a time when India’s aviation sector is experiencing transformative growth. As India becomes the world’s third-largest aviation market and plans to introduce over 1,500 aircraft, the need for robust MRO services has never been greater.

According to Jeet Adani, director of Adani Airports, the acquisition is fundamental to building an integrated aviation services ecosystem.

Strategic expansion of Adani Group

Air Works provides critical MRO support to the Indian Navy’s P-8I aircraft and the Indian Air Force’s 737 VVIP fleet, establishing itself as a leading player in the defense aviation sector.

The acquisition is in line with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which focuses on building domestic capacity and reducing dependence on foreign MRO services.

Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defense & Aerospace, highlighted the strategic value of this acquisition.

This will enable the group to offer full-spectrum MRO services across both the commercial and defense sectors. The contract also underlines Adani’s commitment to expanding India’s indigenous defense technology and infrastructure to ensure that India’s aviation services remain globally competitive.

By integrating Air Works, Adani Defense & Aerospace will strengthen its role in the design and manufacturing of advanced defense systems while building a robust ecosystem for civil and military aviation.

This acquisition is not just a business move, but a strategic and important step towards strengthening India’s position as a global aviation hub.
