A new Prison Break series is coming to Hulu as the streaming service has given the green light to a reboot trial. The first four seasons of the original series aired from 2005 to 2009, followed by the TV movie The Final Break, which was released days after the season 4 finale. In 2017, Fox revived Prison Break as a revival series, airing a fifth season. There were plans for a sixth season, but they were ultimately scrapped.
Prison Break reboot sequel receives pilot order on Hulu
Hulu has ordered a pilot for a Prison Break reboot from Mayans MC and The Outlaws co-creator Elgin James. Reports about the series first surfaced in November 2023. At the time, it was revealed that the new show would share a story world with the original series. However, it will not revolve around existing characters and will feature a new cast. This is still the case after the recent update. But for now, the plot is being kept a closely guarded secret.
In addition to the original show, there is a low-budget spin-off series, Prison Break: Proof of Innocence, which is now available on SprintTV’s Fox stations. In 2007, there was an attempt to develop a complete spin-off series titled Prison Break: Cherry Hill, but it ultimately fell through.
Notably, Wentworth Miller, who starred alongside Michael Scofield, said in a since-deleted Instagram post that he did not want to play the role again. “It’s out. PB’s. Officially. It’s not just static on social media (although that’s at the heart of the issue). They just don’t want to play straight characters. Their The story has been told (and has been told),” Miller posted. The actor further said: “Michael is no more. If you’re a fan of the show and were hoping for more seasons…I understand that this is disappointing. I’m sorry.”
His co-stars on the show took to Instagram to show their support, including Dominic Purcell, who plays Michael’s brother Lincoln Burrows, and actress Sarah Wayne Callies, who plays Sarah Tancredi.
