OpenAI has introduced holiday-themed voice capabilities to ChatGPT, allowing users to interact with an AI-powered Santa Claus throughout the month of December. The new “Santa Mode” adds a fun twist to ChatGPT’s voice mode in the days before Christmas.

Available starting today, the seasonal voice mode can be activated by clicking the snowflake icon next to the prompt bar. OpenAI describes Santa’s voice as “cheerful and upbeat,” featuring the classic boisterous, cheerful tone associated with traditional depictions of Santa Claus. This feature is designed to add a playful element to AI interactions during the holiday season.
As part of OpenAI’s “12 Days of OpenAI” event, Santa Mode arrives with another important update: real-time video understanding capabilities. Users will now be able to have video conversations using ChatGPT, and will also be able to “see” and interact with their families in real-time with the Santa persona and other figures.
The company has implemented certain restrictions on the Celebration feature. Conversations with Santa will not be recorded in your chat history.
OpenAI has made the Santa experience accessible to all users and has also reset usage limits for Advanced Voice Mode to ensure everyone can enjoy festive interactions. This mode will be available until early January.
Santa Mode will be accessible worldwide through iOS and Android mobile apps, the ChatGPT website, and Windows and MacOS desktop applications.
