Matthew Rhys has signed a leading role in the upcoming Apple TV+ series, “Widow’s Bay.”
The show was picked up in 10 episodes by Apple in September 2024. The official logline says it is about “the mysteriously cursed New England Island and its superstitious citizens led by the mayor (RHY) who refuses to believe their warnings.”
This is the latest streaming television role that Rhys has been lined up recently. He recently shot the Netflix Limited series “The Beast in Me” across from Claire Danes, but in November Rhys will star on John Krasinski’s opposite of Amazon Prime Serial Killer Drama “Silent River.” It was done. He recently wrapped up filming “Towards Zero” by Britbox and BBC1 series Agatha Christie.
Rhys is probably best known for his role in the FX Cold War Spy drama “The Americans,” and won an Emmy Award in 2018. He also starred in the HBO “Perry Mason” series for two seasons. His other credits include films such as the ABC series “Brothers and Sisters,” “The Post,” “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” and Andy Serkis’ “Jungle Book.” He also starred as George Carlin in Jason Lateman’s film Saturday Night.

Katie Dippold has created “Widow’s Bay” which will also serve as a showrunner and executive producer. RHYS will also be executive produced in addition to Sterling. Hiro Murai will oversee pilot and executive production along with Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski. Joanne Toll will be a joint agricultural product. Apple Studios is behind the series.
