Exports to Europe rise in response to improved demand for 1HFY25 – Business

Islamabad: Exports to European countries increased by 8.32% between 2024 and 2025, mainly due to high shipments to western provinces.

Absolutely, Pakistan’s exports to the European Union (EU) reached $4.429 billion in December of July 12th, from $4.089 billion last year.

The revival of exports was due to a slight increase in demand for Pakistani goods in the West, Eastern and Northern Europe.

In 2024, exports to the EU to Pakistan immersed $8.24 billion in 3.12% despite GSP+ status.

In October 2023, the European Parliament voted unanimously to extend GSP+ status for another four years until 2027, in order for developing countries, including Pakistan to enjoy tax exemption or minimum obligations from European exports.

Western Europe, including countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Belgium, accounts for the majority of Pakistan’s exports to the EU. Exports to the region increased 12.16% to $2.186 billion at 6MFY25.

Additionally, exports to Eastern and Northern Europe have increased slightly. Exports to northern Europe increased by 14.29% at 6MFY25 from $3,0922 million in the corresponding month last year.

Exports to Southern Europe saw slight growth from 0.06% to $1.525 billion in 6MFY25 last year’s response period. In the region, exports to Spain immersed $724.92 million at 6MFY25 from $747.93 million the previous year.

Exports to Italy increased 0.18% to $569.35 million at 6MFY25, to $568.29 million in the same period last year. Exports to Greece recorded a slight increase of 7.77% per year during reviews, compared to the previous year’s $65.73 million. However, exports to Eastern Europe increased to $369 million to 18.75% from $372.6 million in the response period last year.

Before Brexit, Pakistan’s main export destination was the UK. During the post-Brexit period, exports to the UK to Pakistan rose from $10.2 billion to just $11 billion at 6MFY25 over the period last year.

In 2024, Pakistan’s exports rose 2.33% to the UK from $1.968 billion the previous year to $2014 million.

Pakistan’s exports to Western Europe rose 1,216% to USD 2,186 billion at 6MFY24 from $1,949 billion last year.

Exports to Germany skyrocketed from 15.11pc to 843.72m at 6MFY24 from $732.97m. Similarly, exports to the Netherlands, the second largest market for Pakistan goods, increased by $742.73 million to 10.79% at 6MFY25 to $670.39 million in the corresponding period last year.

Exports to France increased 10.40% from 254.12m to 6MFY24 to $280.56 million, then rose 7.55% to 298.95m $298.95m versus Belgium’s 277.96m.
